Terrazzo bathroom

We had the opportunity to design a fun and unexpected space within this 3-storey town house, fitting with the contemporary renovation. As soon as we had decided on the ideal layout for the room, we began brainstorming designs and ideas for the bathroom, collecting examples of tile, brassware finishes, and concrete basins. Because of the Velux window's abundance of natural light, we were confident we could carry off this daring design. We wanted to maintain the fairly monochromatic colour scheme used throughout the rest of the house while still including some significant, unexpected flashes of colour. In collaboration with the client, we chose the huge terrazzo tile, the mint green subway tile, and the amber concrete basin as the foundation of the colour scheme, which was then supported by the black brass hardware and white finishes of the sanitary ware. We believed a huge freestanding bath would work perfectly under the window to provide a touch of elegance and attention to the space—the ideal place to relax and watch the stars! To complement the sleek lines of the metro tiles and shelf, we utilised a matt stone bath with a level height, which is contrasted by the floor-standing tap to one side. The architecture of the room, angular pattern and grout lines from the tiles juxtapose the combination of subtle curves in the brassware, bath, basin and mirror. We felt this, combined with the earthy yet joyful colour palette, fulfils the brief and we have another very happy client at Obsidian.
